Determination, respect and acceptance are three important characteristics of life. My family and I have struggled through life, but have made it this far and am not planning on letting them down by not educating myself. I have been successful, and strong; trying to set an example for my siblings. Being motivated by those who are not only there for me but those who believe in me encourages me to do better; and so, this is my story.

As a kid, I saw how much my parents struggled for us to be where we stand now. My father, having a Bachelor's degree in Engineering went from cleaning windows to what he always dreamed of, being an engineer in electronics and communications. And for my mother, she was unable to finish school at the time because she had to start working at a young age to help maintain their family. As for now, she has gladly completed her GED and now has a position in which she had never imagined of.

Now that I know my parents stories, they have encouraged me to make someone out of myself. I am the oldest of three and have to set an example. So far I'm doing pretty good, but not good enough because I want to show my younger sisters what I am capable of. The way I want to prove to them is by finishing a career in which I have always dreamed of. I know that I will accomplish them because my vocabulary doesn't consist of failing, quitting or impossible!

I have many goals ahead of me that I plan to achieve in the future. Working myself up is the first step. Many times I compare my dreams to those of my parents and are very similar. The only difference is that they were not able to complete them, and so, here I am trying to complete it for them. I want them to be proud, to speak of me as if I were the best, because they truly believe in me. They are right! They believe that I am not a follower, but a leader, and so I am!

I know that I can make a difference! I am always willing to help others in what ever way I can. And so, I have started volunteering, tutoring, and plan on becoming an interpreter to help those in need of it. In our daily lives we continue to struggle, but never forget who we truly are. We are powerful people who work extremely hard towards our goals and don't know the meaning of giving up or surrender. There is nothing that can stop us from being educated or from educating others. We empower ourselves because knowledge translates to success, power and endurance. And so, for that matter, I know that I am capable of reaching my dreams!
